Recently, there has been some controversy surrounding pop star Katy Perry’s behavior towards an “American Idol” contestant, Sara Beth Liebe, who later decided to leave the competition early to return home to her two children. However, fans are now applauding another reality star who clapped back at Perry during her appearance on “American Idol.”
During a recent episode, a contestant named Samantha Williams performed an original song which Perry criticized for not having a clear structure. However, fellow reality star Iggy Azalea, who was guest-judging that episode, defended Williams and hit back at Perry with some pointed comments of her own.
“I feel like sometimes these performances where it’s kind of all over the place, it’s actually kind of what sets them apart from other singers,” Azalea said. “I think that people that have the ability to take risks and switch things up in their song and still have it come off as a really good performance, you know, that’s something that sets them apart.”
Fans on social media have been praising Azalea for standing up to Perry’s criticism and speaking up for Williams. While some have criticized Perry for allegedly mom-shaming Liebe earlier in the season, others have admired Azalea for her outspokenness and willingness to defend the contestants on the show.
Meanwhile, in another recent development regarding Perry, it has been reported that she and former rival Taylor Swift have put their public feud behind them with the help of legendary singer Stevie Nicks. Perry, who serves as a judge on “American Idol,” reportedly sought out Nicks’ advice on how to handle her issues with Swift and eventually reached out to the “Shake It Off” singer to apologize and reconcile.
The drama surrounding Perry and the “American Idol” contestants is sure to continue as the season progresses, but it is heartening to see other stars like Iggy Azalea stepping up to defend the performers and help them shine on stage.
