On April 20, 2023, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Mexican Navy suspended their search for three American sailors who went missing off the Mexican coast. The missing sailors were identified as Kerry O’Brien, Frank O’Brien, and William Gross. The three men were last heard from on April 14, 2023, while sailing from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to San Diego, California.
The U.S. Coast Guard and the Mexican Navy launched a joint search and rescue operation on April 15, 2023, after the men were reported missing by their families. The search included multiple aircraft and boats from both the U.S. and Mexican authorities. Despite their extensive efforts, the search failed to locate any trace of the missing sailors.
The Mexican Navy officially suspended their search on April 20, citing that there was not enough evidence to suggest that the sailors were still alive. The U.S. Coast Guard followed suit and announced that they were also suspending their search for the missing sailors.
The families of the missing sailors have been notified about the search being halted. They have expressed their disappointment and sadness over the outcome but have thanked the U.S. and Mexican authorities for their efforts.
This is a tragic event, and we extend our deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of Kerry O’Brien, Frank O’Brien, and William Gross. The U.S. Coast Guard and the Mexican Navy have done everything in their power to locate the missing sailors, but unfortunately, sometimes the sea can be unforgiving. As of now, the cause of their disappearance is unknown, and the investigation is ongoing.
