Lionel Messi: A Brief Biography
Lionel Messi is an Argentine former professional football player and coach. He was born on June 24, 1987, in Rosario, Argentina, to a working-class family. Messi’s father, Jorge Messi, was a factory steel worker, and his mother, Celia, worked as a cleaner. Messi had always shown an interest in football from a young age and began playing with local youth teams.
Early football career of Messi
In 1995, at the age of 8, Messi joined the youth team of Newell’s Old Boys, a club based in his hometown. Messi’s potential quickly became apparent, and he was soon scouted by some of Europe’s top clubs, including Barcelona, who offered to pay for his medical treatment for a growth hormone deficiency.

Messi joined Barcelona’s youth team in 2000 and made his debut for the first team in 2004 at the age of just 17.
