She said that she had worked hard for the part and felt confident in her audition. “It was like this ticking clock: ‘You have to make a decision by tomorrow,'” Johansson said. “I was like, ‘Okay, I’ll see you tomorrow.’ And then it was like…” she trailed off, before finishing, “It was such a weird time.”
Johansson also talked about how unlucky she felt to have missed out on the role, especially with the film’s critical acclaim and box office success. “It would have been a totally different thing,” she said. “It’s always fun to be the ingenue, but I think it’s also nice to have something that is complex and a little more challenging.”

While losing the Gravity role was a disappointment for Johansson, it did not stop her from continuing to build a successful career in Hollywood.
